History The Brentwood Public Library was founded on March 1, 1968. The library was built on the rooftop of the newly constructed Brentwood Academy of Engineering. The library had a bookmobile that visited the Brentwood, Halls, Williamson County, and Healds Public Libraries. In the mid to late 1970s, Brentwood Public Library began a project to acquire twenty 5,000 volume reference sections from the Chattanooga Public Library. Librarians employed at the Brentwood Public Library were successful with the library's expansion during the 1970s. The Brentwood Public Library added a six-story building. The Brentwood Public Library was expanded again in 1981, which gave the library a Children's Department and an Adult Fiction Collection. When the Brentwood Academy of Engineering began in 1968, Brentwood Public Library was the first building built on the campus of the school. Brentwood Public Library's decision to open up the rooftop of the school in 1979 was popular. The rooftop facilities were used by students. Students would often attend classes there. In 1994, Brentwood Public Library opened another six-story building. The library held a combination of fiction, non-fiction, reference, and social science sections. Brentwood Public Library was the first public library in the Tennessee to digitize its books and circulation in 2002.
